JeffCo Boys Tennis Championship: Gardendale places third

Gardendale came through with wins in the top two singles flights plus the top doubles bracket, but Shades Valley’s depth from top to bottom gave them the points they needed to win the Jefferson County Boys Tennis Championship on Friday at the Noble Park tennis complex.

Austin Yager took the No. 1 singles title, defeating the Mounties’ John Gordon Barneo 7-5, 2-6, 6-3. In the No. 2 singles, the Rockets’ Jonah Mayfield won over Joel Fuller 6-3, 7-6 (6-4). And in the No. 1 doubles, Yager paired with Jacob Wolford to win a marathon match over Chris Murphree and Jordan Agee of Clay-Chalkville, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.
Shades Valley took the crown with 43 points, followed by the Cougars with 35 and Gardendale with 31.
