James “Spud” Wallace

James “Spud” Wallace, age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 15, 2012. As a young man, Spud attended and participated in sports at Woodlawn High School and Howard College in Birmingham, Alabama. A brilliant artist and exceptional coach, Spud enriched the lives of others through his teaching. Even his love of fishing became an opportunity for casual teaching and mentoring. His family and friends will greatly miss his unique sense of humor. Spud was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Minta Malloy Wallace, son James “Jim” Wallace and his wife, Lori Wallace, grandchildren Tiffany Wallace Shafer and her husband, Chad Shafer, Justine Hanson, and Ron Ponyicky, and great-grandchildren Zachary Wallace-Cyr, Lauren Shafer, and Luc Shafer, and many nieces and nephews. He most recently resided in Gulf Shores, AL. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and love to all the family and friends who have been so lovingly supportive. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 28, 2012 for friends and family at Lagoon Landing, 1772 W. Beach Blvd, Gulf Shores, AL at sunset.
