Weather: A rainy morning. A line of showers and maybe even a thunderstorm are moving in this morning; they will clear out by early afternoon. Temperatures will fall throughout the day as the front moves through, reaching the upper 40s by 5 p.m. There’s a freeze warning in effect for tonight, as lows drop to the lower 30s. Sunny and chilly for Tuesday, with highs in the upper 50s.

The Petraeus fallout continues. Dozens of questions are emerging from the scandal of CIA director Gen. David Petraeus, who resigned Friday after admitting an extramarital affair with a woman who had written a biography about him. Petraeus, who commanded U.S. forces in Afghanistan before being appointed to head the spy agency, admitted the affair with author Paula Broadwell as he announced his resignation. Petraeus had been scheduled to testify before Congress this week on what the agency knew about the attacks on the consulate in Benghazi, Libya that resulted in the deaths of the U.S. ambassador and three others. The FBI discovered the affair some time ago, apparently by accident, as email messages surfaced coming from Petraeus’ personal account which appear to have been written by Broadwell to another woman — Jill Kelley, who works for Central Command in Tampa. Both Broadwell and Kelley are married, as Petraeus has been for 38 years. Republicans are complaining about the timing of the investigation, and asking what President Obama knew about it and whether the announcement was held until after the election so as not to hurt Obama’s re-election bid.

Father and son killed after football game. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two people who died after being struck by a car in front of Pinson Valley High School on Friday. Walter Smith, 59 and his 2-year-old Son Noah were hit by a 60-year-old driver after the two were crossing over Alabama 75 after the Indians’ playoff game.  The youngster was dead on arrival at St. Vincent’s, while the father perished later. Both were wearing dark clothing and were difficult to see, which has few street lights along that stretch of road.

Sports: Down to one. Of the four local teams who entered the first round of the AHSAA football playoffs, only one will move on to the second — barely. Fultondale escaped with a one-point victory on the road at Lanett, largely thanks to Julian Hardy blocking an extra-point kick that proved to be the difference. The Wildcats will host Fyffe this Friday night. Meanwhile, Gardendale fell at Tuscaloosa County, Mortimer Jordan’s comeback bid at McAdory came up short, and Corner was mauled by Dadeville… College football: Alabama has fallen to fourth in the latest BCS rankings after Saturday’s loss to Texas A&M. Kansas State moves to the top spot, followed by Oregon and Notre Dame. The Tide isn’t out of the BCS championship picture yet, but basically two of the top three would have to lose again for any realistic chance of a repeat title shot.
