Emma Frank Gay

Funeral services for Emma Frank Gay, 87, of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Pastor Warren Ruland officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gay died at Cullman Long Term Care Friday, April 7. She was born Aug. 13, 1918 in Cullman to Joseph and Ella Zeun Frank. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and a member of the “Ladies Aid” at St. Paul’s.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Alton Augustine Gay.

Survivors include her sister, Helen Harris of Cullman; her brother, Henry Frank of Madison; two sons, David (Linda) Gay and Joseph (Pat) Gay, both of Cullman; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.



Mildred Wynell Anderson Owen

Funeral services for Mildred Wynell Anderson Owen, 88, of Cullman, will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at the Moss-Service Funeral Home Chapel, Dan Anderson officiating, with burial in Cullman City Cemetery.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Owen died Friday, April 7 at Woodland Medical Center. She was born Nov. 29, 1917 in Cullman County to James Burl and Emma Etta Roberts Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Hazel Moon; her brother, Elmer Anderson; her daughter, Barbara Gail Bain; and two grandsons, Jay Paul Bain and David Lyn Bain.

Survivors include three daughters, Carolyn (Alvin) McBride; Mary Frances (Travis) Hunt and Regina (Jon) Dillinger; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Monday, April 10 from 9 a.m. until the service begins at 11 a.m.



Edith Marie Ballew

Funeral services for Edith Marie Ballew, 81, of Bremen, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2006, at Hensley Chapel Baptist Church in Sparta, Tenn, with burial in Young Family Cemetery in Sparta.

Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ballew died Friday, April 7 at Cullman Regional Medical Center.



Bobby Earl Love

Funeral services for Bobby Earl Love, 63, of Holly Pond, will be at 11 a.m., Sunday, Arpil 9, 2006, at Holly Pond Funeral Home, with Rev. Dink Lambert and Rev. Hughlen Murphree officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Love died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Marshall County Medical Center North.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vera Preston Love; and a brother, Kenneth Love.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce McGriff Love of Holly Pond; two sons, Bobby Michael (Lisa) Love and Mitchell D. (Connie) Love; a brother, Larry Love; a sister, Paulette Love Bryant and four grandchildren, Whitney Lee, Ashley Love, Zac Love and Kaylee Adair.

He was a poultry farmer and a member of Union Grove Presbyterian Church.

He was born to Clarence W. Love and Vera Preston Love in Marshall County.

Pallbearers will be Wayne McGriff, Matt McGriff, Jason Creel, Jerry Creel, Lelton Creel and Chris Tipton.

Visitation today at 8 a.m. until the service.



Pernie Cockrell Jacobs

Funeral services for Pernie Cockrell Jacobs, 89, of Hanceville will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at Nichols Funeral Home in Double Springs, Rev. Leon Zalenski officiating, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jacobs passed away Thursday, April 6 in Cullman. She was born Aug. 22, 1916 in Double Springs to Jesse and Mina Bailey Cockrell. She was a retired bookkeeper.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Olin Jacobs; two sisters, Lilly McNeece and I.V. Glover; and three brothers, J.W., C.D. and Joe Covington.

Survivors include two daughters, Jeanette Buettner and Doris (Herman) Weston; two sisters, Anna Mize and Ruby Williams; four grandchildren, Debbie (Tom) Krisulewicz, Carol (Charles) Sherts, Leah (Ron) Wyckoff and Jealon (Jim) Thomas; and seven great-grandchildren, Anne and Alex Krisulewicz, Tiffany and Ryan Wyckoff, Amanda Thomas and Sarah and William Sherts.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clarence Talmadge Sharpton

Graveside services for Clarence Talmadge Sharpton, 96, of Tuscaloosa, will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, 2006, at Evergreen City Cemetery, Rev. Carl Wells officiating.

Heritage Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Sharpton died Friday, April 7. He was a retired vice president of the University of Alabama; dean of students, East Tennessee State University; principal, Henry Clay High School, Lexington, Ky.; professor with the University of Kentucky; a reitred colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of First Baptist Church, past president of the Retired Officers Association and the Tuscaloosa Kiwanis Club and served on the boards of numerous local charities and civic organizations.

He was preceded in death by Barbara Lucille Gilbert Sharpton.

Survivors include his wife, Agnes Sharpton; his daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann Sharpton; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Cruer of Houston, Texas and Janet Parr of Coventry, England; his son, the Rev. Larry J. Sharton of Montgomery; his sister, Cleo Knight of Cullman; four grandchildren, Sean Matthew Sharpton of Montgomery, Mary Melissa Sharpton of Montgomery, Sgt. Neil T. Sharpton of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Abigail Elizabeth Sharpton of Montgomery; and his great-grandson Aaron H. Sharpton of Montgomery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the burial at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home in Tuscaloosa.



Orvel E. “O.E.” Smith

Funeral services for Orvel E. “O.E.” Smith, 79, of Huntsville, were held Sunday at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Rev. Kee Sloan officiating, with burial in Maple Hill Cemetery.

Laughlin Service Funeral Home of Huntsville was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Smith died Friday, April 7. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics. He joined the Army Ballistic Missile Agency in 1954 and was an original member of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center, working as a scientist until retirement in 1986. He continued to work as a consultant in the aerospace industry until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Marie Smith; two daughters, Diana (David) Morrison of Birmingham and Rhonda (Ron) Robb of Seattle, Wash.; three sons, Greg (Roberta) Smith of St. Joseph, Mich., Mark Smith of Huntsville and Jonathan (Jenny) Smith of Madison; his brother, Hanford Smith of Vinemont; and six grandchildren, Max Morrison, Dan Morrison, Adam Robb, Ethan Robb, Katie Marie Smith and Gregory Smith.

Visitation was Sunday.
