Sara ‘Sally’ Ruth Vandiver Mize

Funeral services for Sara “Sally” Ruth Vandiver Mize, 74, of Cullman will be at 11 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2012, at Cullman FBC with Dr. Edwin Hayes and Rev. Jerry Cole officiating. Interment will be at Cullman City Cemetery. Moss Service Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be from 6 – 9 p.m., Sunday, September 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Mize died Friday, September 14, 2012, at Cullman Regional Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born March 4, 1938. Sally was a devoted mother and grandmother with a special love for and desire to teach. She retired in July 2005 after serving for 32 years in the Cullman FBC Preschool, 17 years as a teacher and 15 as the director.
Sally was a graduate of Blue Mountain College for Women in Tupelo, MS with a double-major in English and Pipe Organ. She had a love for music and taught piano and organ for several years. She was a member of the Chancel Choir at FBC for 33 years. In October 2005, she was diagnosed with a Parkinsonism type of disease, which took its non-reversible course and ultimate toll over the past seven years.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth Vandiver of Cullman.
Survivors include Curtis Mize, her husband of 51 years, two children, Ron (Beverly) Mize of Huntsville and Lindy (Ben) Hale of Birmingham; a sister, Betty (Harry) Lindstrom of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother, Jimmy (Glynda) Vandiver of Cullman; five grandchildren, Curt and Keith Mize and Abbie, Sara and Grace Hale.
