VINEMONT — Several members of Girl Scout Troop 10288 were given a glimpse of the inner workings of municipal government from the Vinemont Town Council Tuesday, Nov. 12.
Five of the troop’s 12 members attended the town’s monthly council meeting Tuesday to earn an extra badge for learning about local government to add to their sashes. The scouts were able to ask about each council member’s background and the role each of them play on the council.
The most popular question from the troop was what each council member enjoyed the most about serving, even Town Clerk Kayecea Sasser was asked to join the conversation. The consensus was engaging with members of the community.
“My favorite thing has to be community events. I like giving back and serving people,” Sasser said.
As a former Boy Scout troop leader himself, Mayor Radginal Dodson praised the troop’s leader, Heather Doyle, as well as the girl’s commitment to the organization. He even offered a brief history lesson by telling the troop about how the dual staircases located in the Vinemont Community Center had been designed in a way to highlight both Boy and Girl Scouts’ advancement in their ranks.
While the community no longer has a local Boy Scout troop, Dodson hinted at the possibility of that changing in the near future.
“I really, really wish we had a Boy Scout troop here,” Dodson said. “I have been contacted by ex-Boy Scouts and scout leaders in Vinemont about the possibility of a reunion. I don’t know if it could be reactivated again or not to be absolutely truthful, but I’m willing to go if somebody else comes up with some ideas.”
