A three-vehicle crash just outside the Fultondale city limits has resulted in one person being killed and another critically injured.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office reported that the crash happened at about 9:30 a.m. near the intersection of of Carson Road and Indian Valley Road. Three vehicles were involved; the JCSO statement says that the driver of one vehicle was trying to pass another when another vehicle appeared in the oncoming lane.

The oncoming vehicle was unable to get out of the way, and all three vehicles collided. The driver of the vehicle that was trying to pass was killed.

One other adult was transported to a local hospital and remains in critical condition. Two children were also injured, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The names of the injured have been withheld until next of kin can be notified.
