Morning, y’all…

Weather: The S-word is back. We have still more rain in store for today, though it will start to thin out a bit as the day goes on. Temperatures will be in the middle 40s, with lows in the middle 30s. But we’re still keeping a wary eye on Thursday’s forecast, as the metro area stands a chance of maybe getting some snow — or just some cold rain — during the middle of the day. The nature of the cold system makes it very difficult to be specific about where or how much snow may (or may not) fall.

Slain pastor’s wife laid to rest. Lisa Greer was remembered Tuesday in her hometown of Scottsboro, after she was killed during last Thursday’s shooting at a Gardendale church parsonage. She was the wife of the Rev. Dr. Terry Greer, who is charged with her murder plus the attempted murder of their daughter. Meanwhile, Terry Greer remains under observation at UAB Hospital, recuperating from self-inflicted stab wounds during the incident.

Library takes the day off. Gardendale’s library will be closed Wednesday while the Jefferson County Library system upgrades its computer servers downtown. Fultondale and Warrior libraries will be open, though, but only to check books in and out. Normal service resumes Thursday.

Sports: From one Wildcat den to another. When Keith Register attends the annual Mr. Football banquet in Montgomery at noon today, it will be his last act as the head coach at Fultondale. Shortly before he hopes to see ArDarius Stewart named as the state’s best overall prep player, the Blount County Board of Education will vote on a recommendation to hire him as the new coach at Hayden. Register coached Fultondale for nine years with a 47-51 record, but took the team to the Class 2A quarterfinals the last two seasons. He’ll face somewhat of a rebuilding program at Hayden, but nothing compared to his 2004 season at Fultondale, where he had to forfeit the last three games of the season because he didn’t have enough healthy players… Speaking of the banquet, Stewart is a front-runner for the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s top football honor, but another local player has a chance to a big award as well. Pinson Valley senior linebacker Zach Cunningham is nominated for the Class 5A Back of the Year; he logged 194 tackles this season… Prep basketball: Austin Sanford was on fire Tuesday night, scoring 37 points as Corner defeated Curry 70-51. It’s the seventh straight win for coach Billy Conner’s team. Elsewhere, Tabernacle Christian defeated Marion Academy, while Cullman beat Mortimer Jordan and Pinson Valley took down Springville. In girls basketball, Hayden wrapped up the area regular-season championship by defeating Walker. Elsewhere, 10th-ranked Locust Fork edged Guntersville, Corner took out Curry, Fultondale got a key area road win at Vincent, Cullman demolished Jordan and Gardendale whipped Hueytown.
