It’s a wet, windy Wednesday…

Weather: Storms moving through. The line of storms that popped up tornadoes along a line from the Midwest to the Gulf is moving through our area this morning. Scattered tornado warnings have been issued in Alabama, but no confirmed tornadoes have been sighted. As the line of storms moves on to the east, temperatures will fall throughout the day, with afternoon temps in the 50s and nighttime lows in the 30s. Skies will clear Thursday, with highs around 50.

School delays: Virtually all local school systems have delayed their openings today until 11 a.m., waiting for the storm system to pass. Jefferson County was the last holdout, waiting until 3 a.m. to make its decision.

Severe emu warning has expired. The case of the wandering emus is over, as the male bird spotted in the Morris area has been captured and returned to its owner, who lives new New Castle. He used the bird’s mate — the one that was caught in Gardendale last week — to lure the male bird back into a truck.

Controversial health-supplement supplier in spotlight again. You may remember Mitch Ross, who runs a Fultondale business called S.W.A.T.S that supplies various substances and devices to athletes seeking an extra edge in their performance. He and partner Christopher Key making headlines again after a story appeared Tuesday on Sports Illustrated’s website, detailing claims that members of the Alabama BCS-championship football team, as well as Baltimore Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis, used the company’s products. One of those products is produced from the velvet of antlers from a particular variety of deer found in New Zealand, and contains a substance called IGF-1, which is banned for use by the National Football League. Lewis, in a Super Bowl Media Day press conference in New Orleans, refused to even mention Ross’ name when questioned about the SI story.

“Shazam,” indeed. We don’t know what Sheriff Andy Taylor or Sgt. Carter would say, but Sylacauga native Jim Nabors — the actor who portrayed naïve gas station attendant-turned-Marine Gomer Pyle on two classic television shows — has married his longtime same-sex partner. An online news site in Hawaii, where Nabors has lived for decades, said that the 82-year-old actor married Stan Cadwallader in Seattle two weeks ago. The two have been in a relationship for 38 years, the report said. Gay marriages were made legal in Washington state in December. Nabors’ sexual preference has been a largely open secret within the entertainment industry, but he had never acknowledged it publicly until now.

Sports: Tough night for Rockets and Blue Devils. Gardendale’s girls and boys basketball teams both lost by one point Tuesday to Hewitt-Trussville, with the girls’ loss coming in the last few seconds on a basket by the Huskies’ Leigh McAnally, after the Rockets turned the ball over on an inbounds play in the back court. Both Mortimer Jordan teams lost to John Carroll Catholic. Locust Fork’s girls were routed by Oneonta, the top-ranked team in Class 4A, but the Hornet boys manhandled the Redskins. Corner’s boys defeated Hanceville, and Pinson Valley took down Clay-Chalkville.
