Time is running out for artists to get involved with this year’s Black Creek Arts Festival.

The festival is June 8, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Black Creek Park in Fultondale.

The deadline for artist applications is May 24.

The juried art show will feature more than 30 artists from throughout the Southeast, as well as live music, children’s art activities and food vendors.

“We’ve added a juried portion to our festival this year, which means the artists submitted their work to represent a specific art medium to our art chairs and then they were selected based on their creativity and technical skill to be in the show,” said Kara Kennedy, chair of the Fultondale Arts Council.

The juried artwork will be judged by John Powers, a professor at the UAB Art and Art History Department. The winning artist will receive $400.

“This is our third year for the Black Creek Arts Festival, and it’s something the community looks

forward to,” Kennedy said. “The city of Fultondale

all of our other sponsors are great community partners and their support helps us bring events like these to the area.”

Kennedy said the goal of the arts council board is to “continue to educate and promote an appreciation of the visual and performing arts in north Jefferson County.”

The schedule of performers includes:

• 10:30: Cletes and the Old Timers Band, gospel

• 11:30: Rick and Jilda Watson, singer songwriters

• 12:30: Donita Gywn Newman of Warrior and Corey Johnson of Nashville, Tenn., singer songwriters

• 2:30: Runaway Home of Nashville, country and Americana

Artists can get an application for the festival at www.fultondaleartscouncil.org. The fee to enter is $30 and the jury fee is $15.
