A classic baseball pitcher’s duel was decided by a defensive mistake, as Thorsby’s Bo Hoffman reached base on an error and scored on another in their 1-0 win at Corner on Tuesday.

Hoffman, the Rebels’ pitcher, allowed just two hits and struck out five in the complete-game victory. Cody Gilbert allowed three hits and struck out three in the loss. Neither pitcher allowed a walk; Hoffman had one hit batsman.

The Jackets had a chance for a rally in the third inning with the bases loaded and one out, but Hoffman then struck out Gilbert and Josh Walker to end the threat.

Gilbert was in good form early, retiring 12 of the first 13 Thorsby batters until he ran into trouble in the fifth.
