AHSAA extends state basketball championship contract with Birmingham through 2020

The Alabama High School Athletic Association will keep the Final 48 state basketball tournament in Birmingham through 2020, the association and Mayor William Bell announced today.

The AHSAA and the city of Birmingham extended the current contract an additional five years, It was scheduled to end in 2015.

The tournament, which is beig held this week, determines the boys and girls champions in all six AHSAA classes. The four regional champions play semifinal and final games at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center.

The BJCC began hosting the tournament in 1994.
