Bailey Murphy struck out 12 batters as No. 4 Mortimer Jordan defeated Walker 9-1, in a Class 5A Area 12 softball game Tuesday.

Murphy was also effective at the plate, as she went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Shelby Maze was also 2-for-2, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Natalie Johnsey worked one inning of relief for the Blue Devils, striking out two. She and Murphy combined to hold the Vikings to four hits.

Jordan (16-8, 3-1 area) was rebounding from a 3-2 loss on Monday to Pisgah, the top-ranked team in Class 3A.
