Corner wrapped up the area championship, plus home-field advantage in the first round of the Class 4A baseball playoffs, thanks to a doubleheader sweep of Dora on Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets took the opener by a 5-2 score, and won the nightcap 12-7.
In the first game, Jack Robbins put the home team ahead for good with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. Seth Merchant’s hit later in the inning brought home Blake Byrd, who reached base on an error.
Byrd opened the scoring in the first when Josh Walker hit into an error.
Jacobs Twilley was 2-for-4 for the Bulldogs, and drove in both their runs.
Cody Gilbert went all seven innings for the win, striking out three but allowing six hits and five walks. Blake Stone took the loss for Dora.
In the closing game, the Yellow Jackets put up six runs in the second inning, but had to scramble late in the game after Dora tied things up with a five-run rally in the third.
Merchant and Josh Walker scored on an outfield error in the fourth for what proved to be the winning runs. Kerry Smith opened the sixth with a base hit, then came all the way home on an overthrow at second base. Chase Best added a run-scoring double.
Byrd started on the mound, but was pulled in the midst of the Dora third-inning rally. Best finished the game and got the win with 4-2/3 innings of relief, striking out seven Bulldogs. Smith was 3-for-4 at the plate, while Byrd was 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Walker was 2-for-3 and batted in two runs, and Merchant had two RBIs.
