Charlie Ray Osmer

Charlie Ray Osmer, age 72, of Vinemont, died Monday, June 12, 2006. Memorial services will be announced at a later date by Moss-Service Funeral Home.

Mr. Osmer was born on July 17, 1933 in Fieldstone to Bennie Osmer and Lillian Beatrice Reed Osmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Velma Crews; and one brother, Raymond Osmer. He served proudly in the United States Air Force for 21 years, from 1951 until 1972, in the military police, during which the Korean war and the Vietnam conflicts occurred. Then moving to Vinemont, Mr. Osmer went to work for the Cullman City Police Department. While working there, he was the animal control officer, meter officer and jailer for 18 years, retiring in 1994.

Survivors include his wife, Syble Fay Baldwin Osmer of Vinemont; three daughters, Melinda (Clay) Rice, Anita Fay (David) Howards and Loretta Lynn (Michael) Schafer, all of Vinemont; two sons, Michael Ray (Raquel) Osmer of Cullman and William B. (Judith) Osmer of Vinemont; two sisters, Kermit Franklin of Enterprise and Margaret (Glynn) Elliott of Crane Hill; nine grandchildren, Syble Louise Cole of Great Falls, Mont., Crystal Elaine (David) Gibbs and James Robert Webb Jr., Michael Kevin Schafer Jr., Rayahnna Howards and Magen Lashay Schafer, all of Vinemont, Charley Ann (Tony) Klump and Heather Marie Cole, both of Cullman, and Michael Blake Osmer of Columbiana.

The Osmer family requests that in lieu-of-flowers donations to be made in Charlie’s name to the American Diabetes Association.



Marion Joyce Fuller

Memorial services for Marion Joyce Fuller, 76, of Vinemont are incomplete and will be announced at a later date by Moss-Service Funeral Home. Mrs. Fuller died Monday, June 12, 2006.



John Hullon Sizemore

Funeral services for John Hullon Sizemore, 75, of Arab will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Holly Pond Funeral Home, the Rev. Ray Lathem officiating, with burial in New Hope No. 2 Cemetery.

Holly Pond Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Sizemore died Tuesday, June 13 at his residence. He was born in Cullman County to Edmond Hazel and Viola McGriff Sizemore. He was self employed and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Welti Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Patricia Sizemore; a brother, the Rev. Hobert Sizemore; and a sister, Alma Wright.

Survivors include his wife, Verdeara Redding Sizemore of Holly Pond; a son, Steve Sizemore of Smith Lake; two daughters, Lynn Hodges of Warrior and Pam Smith of Hanceville; a brother, the Rev. Hurshel Sizemore of Calera; a sister, Mona Alene Hammock of Birmingham; two grandchildren, Stephanie Danecker and Natalie Oden; and a great-grandchild, Branson Danecker.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today.



Coyt John Andrews

Funeral services for Coyt John Andrews, 82, of Addison will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Friendship Baptist Church in the Upshaw community, with burial in the church cemetery.

Nichols Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Andrews passed away on Monday, June 12 in Cullman. He was born on Nov. 22, 1923, in Laurel, Miss., to Johnny and Eula Andrews. He served in the U.S. Navy form 1943 to 1946.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Noal Q. Andrews and Gerald Andrews; and a sister, Cloie Carpenter.

Survivors include his wife, Dorthy Andrews of Addison; a son, Jamie Andrews of Addison; three daughters, Sue McMeans of Decatur, Diane Wilkins of Addison and Jan Crittenden of Hartselle; two brothers, Morris Andrews of Detroit, Mich., and Guin Andrews of Addison; a sister, Patsy Andrews of Addison; and four grandchildren, Dustin Wilkins, Haley Wilkins, Amber Crittenden and Andrew Crittenden.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Audie L. Mayo

Funeral services for Audie L. Mayo, 74, of Falkville will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Hill Top Church of God, Bro. F.M. Head and Pastor Randy Booth officiating, with burial in the church cemetery.

Peck Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mayo died Sunday, June 11 at her residence. She was born on Aug. 26, 1931, in Cullman County. She was a member of Hill Top Church of God and was a loving wife and mother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas “Tom” and Lula Mae Briscoe Widner; and a great-grandchild, Brittany Brown.

Survivors include her husband, Troy Mayo; a son, Larry Mayo; four daughters, Chiquita (Ray) Moore, Kathy Mayo, Bonnie Johnson and Connie Morris; a brother, Dewitt Widner, all of Falkville; a sister, Clara Fowler of Eva; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Jeremy Horton, Randall Morris, Josh Mayo, Stevie McCright, Russell McCright and Alvin Widner.

Visitation was Tuesday.



Gertrude S. Dishner

Gertrude S. Dishner, 92, of Cullman, formerly of Homewood, died Saturday, June 10, 2006. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for over 50 years and a longtime member of the Lady of Grace Guild. After moving to Cullman, she became a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church. She was a loving person known as the Banana Lady because of the 30 years she visited three nursing homes where she always gave residents a gift – often bananas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Dishner.

Survivors include two daughters, Gayla Merrick and Margot Dishner (Marc) Kluender; two granddaughters, Catherine Merrick and Elizabeth Merrick; a sister, Margaret (Roger) Hardwick.

Visitation was Tuesday.

Funeral mass will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.

A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 16 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Cullman.

Lena Josephine Welch

Funeral services for Lena Josephine Welch, 90, of Mt. Olive will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Morgan’s at Gardendale Chapel, Bro. James Parker officiating, with burial in Valhalla Cemetery.

Mrs. Welch went to Heaven on Tuesday, June 13. She was a member of Beechwood Baptist Church for 64 years. She retired from the Mountain Brook School System after 20 years of service. She attended Samford University while she was in her 70s and graduated with a degree in Bible study.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Welch; her parents, C.G. and Lena Fann; a son, Melvin Welch; two grandchildren, Angelina Thomas and Billy Thomas; two sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include a daughter, Elsa (William) Thomas of Cullman; five grandchildren, Teresa (Glenn) Murray and Tracey Thomas, both of Cullman, Angele (Keith) Taylor of Birmingham, Pandey (Bud) Hope of Mt. Olive and Lena (Mark) LeVan of Bagley; 14 great-grandchildren, Tommy Murray, Jennifer (Brandon) Kennamer, Scott Thomas, Chris Thomas, Zachary (Brandy) Pate, Ty Hale, Blake Farley, Gabrielle Taylor, Tommy (Kasey) Armstrong, Kortney Strong, Trinity Kay, Shanna Eiland, Dustin Eilan and Ginger LeVan; and a great-great-grandchild, Baker Welch Armstrong.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.



Anthony Jesse Marty

Funeral services for Anthony Jesse Marty, SMSGT-Ret., 68, of Mountain Brook, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 15, 2006, at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Joe Mills officiating, with burial in Baldwin Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cullman.

Mr. Marty died Monday, June 12. He received the Bronze Star while in service to his country in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the University Carillon United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Marty.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer (Mike) Johnson of Orlando, Fla.; three sons, Steven Douglas Marty of Kissimmie, Fla., Kenneth Dale (Becky) Marty of Denver, Colo., and Anthony David (Melissa) Marty of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two brothers, Maurice (Juanita) Marty and Mark (Anne) Marty Sr.; two sisters, Joan (Bob) Alspach and Patricia (Neal) Walker; a sister-in-law, Brenda Marty; and two grandchildren, Amanda and Jason Marty of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
