Gardendale City Council members on Monday honored two organizations for their success.
The first was for longevity: Mayor Othell Phillips issued a proclamation to Pineywood Baptist Church for its 75th anniversary. The pastor of the church, Eddie Hughes, thanked the city and the community for their ongoing support.
The second was for business success: The city recognized Express Oil Change in Gardendale for having the top car count for the last 10 years out of 191 company franchises. The company is also second in total revenue; the top-ranked store is in Atlanta.
Jeff Sloan and Micky Rock with Express Oil Change accepted a plaque from Phillips.
In other business, the council:
- promoted Greg Hughes and Chris Lorino to parks maintenance supervisors
- hired Jason Vickers as a part-time control desk clerk at the Gardendale Civic Center
- promoted Pam Sharbono to administrative assistant 3 in the city’s administrative department
