North Jefferson Middle sweeps “Final on the Vinyl” basketball tourney

North Jefferson Middle School took both the boys’ and girls’ title games over Corner Middle in the Final on the Vinyl basketball tournaments at Fultondale High Thursday night.

In the boys’ championship game, the Blue Devils blew the game open in the second quarter, eventually pulling away to a convincing 45-13 victory.

Ben Hardiman led North Jefferson with 13 points. Orion Recke added 10 points plus five blocks.

Recke was named to the all-tournament team, along with Micha Myricks of Fultondale, Trey Prestridge of Oak Grove, Jonathan Stone of Hayden, Blake Byrd of Bagley and Matt Vatani of Corner.

In the girls’ championship, the Devils prevailed over Corner again, but in a much closer game. Alysa Amberson paced North Jefferson with 17 points, including three 3-point shots, as the Devils defeated Corner 43-38. Taylor Sloan led the Yellow Jackets with 21 points.

Both Amberson and Sloan made the all-tournament team, along with Katrina Hubbard of Fultondale, Kayla Wilson of Oak Grove, and Natalie Hoggle of Hayden.

North Jefferson has won the girls championship in all four years the tournament has been played, but the boys title has gone to four different schools.
