Concert

Jan. 31 Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be hosting a special dinner and concert on Sat., Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. The concert will feature Nashville recording artists “Beyond the Ashes.” Dinner begins at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. A donation will be collected. Super Bowl Party

Feb. 1 On Feb. 1, Good Shepherd Lutheran Church will be hosting a Super Bowl Extravaganza beginning at 4 p.m. Watch the game on big screen, there will be a special “Kids Zone” and Wii tournament. There will be a Texas Holdem, $25 entry fee, and Bunko, $10 entry fee, tournament as a fundraiser for the children’s ministry. Prizes will be handed out throughout the night. Senior Day

TOPS

Feb. 5 TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) #284 Gardendale, a non-profit weight loss support group, will host an open house in the Camelia Room at the Gardendale Civic Center on Feb. 5 from 8:30 to 9:30 am.



Winter Wonderland Dance

Feb. 28 The sixth annual 2009 Winter Wonderland Dance with Edd Jones Band is scheduled for Feb. 28. In preparation for the dance, Jackie Tally and Andy Anderson will be teaching lessons each Tuesday night from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Lessons in swing will start Feb. 10 for three consecutive weeks. Cost is $5 per lesson, per person.



Recovery Meetings

Celebrate Recovery meetings at Gardendale-Mt Vernon United Methodist Church meets every Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Contact Paul Wiegert at 631-7631.



Senior Center Tours

The Gardendale Senior Center invites Gardendale residents to tour the center during the month of February for “Love Your Senior Neighbor Month.” This is for those who are age 60 and older or those married to someone 60 and older, or family to bring parents who need to get out and socialize or need better nutrition or exercise Hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Fridays. Meals are served daily at 11:30 a.m., Bingo on Mondays and Thursdays; live entertainment on Tuesdays; exercise and speakers on senior concerns on Wednesdays; bluegrass on Thursdays; pancake breakfast and also a new introductory Spanish class on Fridays.



Mount Olive



Registration

Mount Olive Ball Park baseball and softball youth registration will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday in February. Ages 3 and older are welcome. There will also be an early bird special the first Saturday in February. For more info call Darla Martin at 965-1071.

Kimberly



Smoke Detectors

The Kimberly Fire Department is accepting names and telephone numbers for Kimberly residents to receive a free smoke detector. Residents who are elderly, have young children or are disabled qualify to receive the detectors, which will be installed by firefighters. Call Kimberly Town Hall at 647-5551.

Free Classes

Free Bible School classes offered at The Church At Morris in the Fellowship Hall. Every Thursday, starting Feb. 5 through March 5, 7-9 p.m. “How to Hear From God” will be our topic. Call 647-6207 for more information.
