Chamber to host banquet on Jan. 22

The Greater Gardendale Chamber of Commerce will host its annual banquet on Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Tickets for the event are $25 per person and $250 for a corporate table for up to eight persons. For more information, contact the chamber at 631-9195.

Driver transported to hospital after wreck

A man was transported to UAB Hospital early Thursday morning after a wreck in Mt. Olive. Lt. Randy Christian from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the wreck happened at about 1:23 a.m. Jeffrey Sorenson, 22, of Mt. Olive was traveling north on Mt. Olive Road near Jeffrey Drive in a 2002 Honda Civic when he attempted to pass a vehicle and lost control of his vehicle and struck the vehicle he was trying to pass before hitting a power pole, travelling through a yard before hitting the front porch of a neighboring house. The second vehicle left the road and stopped in a yard. Sorenson was believed to have non-life threatening injuries and there were reportedly no injuries in the other vehicle. Christian said excessive speed is believed to be a factor.
