For the second year, a motorcycle ministry has taken on the task of helping senior citizens in Morris.

Daystar Motorcycle Ministry of Jesus is hosting the second annual “A Star Fell on Morris” on Saturday at Morris City Park.

The event will feature a day packed with preaching and singing, plus a car show and a motorcycle show.

The purpose of A Star Fell on Morris is to raise funds for members of the Morris Senior Center to attend the Master’s Games, also known as the Senior Olympics, this fall.

“The stars we’re talking about is the people that believe in the Lord and the seniors that will go out and represent Jefferson County in the Senior Olympics,” said J.R. Kennedy, founder of Daystar Motorcycle Ministry of Jesus.

There will be 14 singings artists scheduled from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“In between singing we’ll have shotgun preaching,” said Kennedy, featuring nine ministers.

“Everybody was told to pray about what they would preach on and to cast their nets wide,” said Kennedy, who will be one of the preachers Saturday.

Morris Senior Center director Eloise Blankenship said that A Star Fell on Morris is an invaluable asset to the senior center.

Last year, it cost $1,600 for hotel rooms for a dozen Morris seniors to attend the Master’s Games.

Blankenship said the seniors could not attend the event without the help of Kennedy and other citizens who help raise the funds.

A Star Fell on Morris is free to the public.

The cost to set up a table or booth is $10. Kennedy said businesses, churches or people with yard sale items may purchase booth space.

There is no need to reserve a spot. Kennedy said interested persons could show up at the park across from Morris City Hall before 9 a.m. Saturday.

The cost to enter a car or motorcycle in the shows is also $10 each.

All proceeds benefit the Morris Senior Center.
