- Tracy Love
Tracy Love of Kimberly is the school nurse at North Jefferson Middle School. This is her second year there. She also worked as a school nurse for a year each at the Burkett Center and at Mt. Olive Elementary.
• Are you from this area?
I’m from Houston, Texas, and I moved here 23 years ago. I like the smaller town atmosphere. Alabama is beautiful, with the hills and trees.
• Do you enjoy living in north Jefferson County?
I love it here. We moved out here for the schools.
• Tell me about your family.
I met my husband Craig when we were both working at Carraway Hospital. We have four kids, ages 12, 9, 7 and 4. The oldest is here, two are at Bryan Elementary and the youngest will be at Bryan next year.
• What do you enjoy about being a school nurse?
I love the kids. They’re entertaining and they keep me young. I want to be here for them. A school is a much more positive environment than a hospital. I really like being at this school – the principal is very supportive and we have a really good group of students.
• What is the most difficult aspect of your job?
Losing the kids when they move up. You get attached to them. Some of them are in my office every day to take medicine.
• How long have you been a registered nurse?
I graduated from nursing school in 1991 from Jeff State.
• What did you do before that?
I worked at a savings and loan when I was in Houston
• What do you do in your spare time (if you have any with four kids!)?
My husband has to leave for work at 6 a.m., so I get the kids ready in the mornings. All the kids are in activities, so when I’m waiting for them I walk if the weather is nice. I’m also a big reader. I like to read novels and the newspaper.
