Garden Tip: When you rake your straw as it falls, pile it up. Then, when you need to use it, the work will already be complete. Order bulbs now for fall planting. Also order all greens, turnips, kale, lettuce and any cool weather seed. They can be planted next month.

• To the lady who wanted to know about a person that had been in the insurance field, he has been gone for many years. The insurance company may can help

• Happy anniversary greetings go to a great couple, Janet and Henry James on Aug. 21. I hope you have many more wonderful years together.

• The Blue Star Garden Club lost one of their members Aug. 10. Louise Jones left his walk of life after a sudden illness and she will be missed greatly. She was a wonderful member, loyal to the club. She could give the best programs ever. Louise was president of the club many times and kept the club from folding. She won many ribbons with her flowers when the North End Council had their flower shows. She never missed a meeting unless she was ill. When we went to the Birmingham Botanical Gardens in May, we enjoyed watching Louise walk around gathering information on all the plants on display. She said that was one of the most wonderful days she had ever spent. She is now helping garden in her heavenly home. We miss you, Louise.

• Stewart Chapel and Hayden United Methodist Churches will host a singing Aug. 30 at 5 p.m. For more information, call 647-0768. I will have a new number later.

• New Bethel Baptist Church will have a fifth Sunday singing with “The Crown of Grace” at 6 p.m. Aug. 30.

• Our country needs our prayers. We give honor to all that have served before and all of the fallen soldiers and their families. May God bless America.
