Gardendale



Night Time Easter Egg Hunt

April 4 The second annual night time Easter egg hunt will take place on April 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Moncrief Park behind the tennis courts. This event is co-sponsored by The Church Revived and the city of Gardendale. There will be food, games and prizes. Bring your flashlight. Everything is free.



Walk For Life

April 4 Walk for Life for the North Jefferson Women’s Center will be held on April 4 at 10 a.m. Please show your support for life by joining us at this walk. For more information call 608-0757.



Easter Egg Hunt

April 5 There will be a community Easter egg hunt on April 5 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at Black Creek Park. This will include egg hunts, games, pictures with the Easter bunny, a light hot dog supper and more. Open to everyone. Everything is free. This event is sponsored by Gardendale-Mt. Vernon UMC. Miracle League Meeting

April 6 There will be a Miracle League organizational meeting on April 6 at 7 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Come see how you can be a part of this great program. Registration

April 16 Snow Rogers and Gardendale Elementary Schools will host Kindergarten registration on April 16, 5-7 p.m. You must bring your child with you for a short assessment. The following documents must be provided for enrollment: Birth certificate; Social Security card; blue Certificate of Immunization (IMM-50), which should include two measles immunizations and one for chicken pox; two proofs of residence; copy of parent’s driver license; custody papers where applicable. Registration will be permitted without immunization certificate, but certificate must be presented before school begins on Aug. 12. A child’s fifth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in Kindergarten. Child’s sixth birthday must be on or before Sept. 1 to enroll in first grade. Flower Show

April 16-17 The Federated Garden Clubs of North End Council is hosting its 28th annual flower show at the Gardendale Civic Center. The show is open to the public on April 16, 2-7 p.m., and April 17, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free. For more information, call Phoebe Limbaugh at 631-6137.



Magnolia Festival

April 18 The eighth annual Magnolia Festival will be held at the Gardendale Civic Center on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival will feature arts and crafts, classic car show, business expo, carnival rides, inflatables, pooch parade, live entertainment and a variety of food vendors. Town Hall Meeting

April 22 Choices and Consequences, a free town hall meeting for seniors will be held April 22 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Gardendale Civic Center. Speaker Lynn Campisi, an Elder Law Attorney, will enlighten seniors on the many choices available to them in terms of legal issues. There will be sponsoring vendors who will have information available for those interested. Door prizes and a sack lunch will be provided. April 24 The Gardendale Senior Center Health Fair will take place on April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Gardendale Civic Center. Any local businesses having senior interest, please contact Peggy at 631-7240.

Mount Olive



The Great Egg Drop

April 4 The Great Egg Drop will take place April 4 on Mount Olive Road about 2 miles west of I-65. There will be inflatables and free refreshments until the helicopter arrives. Easter Drama

April 5 First Baptist Church Mt. Olive will have their Easter, musical and drama “Biblically, Medically, Archeologically and Historically Jesus is Real” on April 5 at 5:30 p.m. It is interpreted for the deaf and childcare is available for children under 5. Easter Donations

April 9 Alex Swader of Mt. Olive is collecting Easter baskets and supplies for cancer patients at Children’s Hospital. He is asking for donations of small items such as games, toys, stickers, puzzles, books, crayons, chalk and stuffed animals. No candy or other food is allowed. The patients’ ages are toddlers to pre-teens. Gifts should be appropriate for a boy or a girl. Swader must have the items by April 9. Call Michele Swader at 261-1416 for more information.

Easter Egg Hunt

April 11 The Hawkins B. Carter American Legion Post No. 255 in Fultondale is hosting its annual free Easter egg hunt at Black Creek Park. The hunt begins at 10 a.m. under the park’s pavilion. There will be more than 700 eggs hidden, with prize money given for the most eggs found and for specially-marked eggs. Free hot dogs, chips and drinks will be provided for children.

May 22 Fultondale Elementary School will host registration on May 22, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., for all new and returning students. April 16 Bryan Elementary School will host kindergarten registration on April 16, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30-6:30 p.m. Bring your child with you for a short evaluation. Students must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 to register for kindergarten. Bring the following to register: two proofs of residence, blue immunization form, birth certificate, Social Security card, parent’s driver license, legal documents that contain pertinent information (such as custody papers, etc.). Mother’s Day Out

Enon Baptist Church’s Mothers Day Out program will offer childcare for children 6 weeks to 4 years old on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The program follows the Jefferson County School System calendar, so is closed during all of the breaks. For more information call 647-9614.

Greenway Festival

April 4 The 2009 Brookside Greenway Festival will be held on April 4 at Bensko Park from 6 a.m. to sunset. The event will feature the “Frenchie” Negron Classic Metric Century Bicycle Ride, Russian Wild Boar Off-Road Duathalon, arts and crafts, trade day vendors, fishing tournament, 5K and run run, canoe rides, an all-ages midway featuring rides and inflatables for kids, food vendors, cookie eating contest, motorcycle poker run and live entertainment. Critter Club

Ginger Tunnell (Grammy) is teaching “Critter Club” at the Birmingham Zoo. This is a one hour class for 3-5 year olds. They will learn about a new animal each week and have hands-on experience with a live animal. This takes place on Tuesdays 10 -11 a.m. and 1:15– 2:15 p.m., Wednesdays and Thursdays 10–11a.m. Register at the class or online at www.birminghamzoo.com (Education). Easter Drama

April 12 First Baptist Church Trafford will be presenting “By Faith,” a musical drama on Easter Sunday, April 12 at 11 a.m.



Art on the Lake

April 18-19 Art on the Lake, an annual two-day arts and crafts event in Guntersville, is now accepting applications from artists and vendors who wish to exhibit in the show.
