Gold Star Mother Jeanice Galin is recognized during a Veterans Day performance at West Elementary School Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024. Galin's son, Army Staff Sgt. Travis Nelson, was killed Dec. 10, 2005 by hostile fire at a checkpoint outside of Baghdad while in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The Cullman High graduate was Cullman County's first casualty of the war in Iraq

West Elementary 5th graders performed their annual Veterans Day program saluting veterans and their families. Army National Guard, Field Artillery, SGT Keenan Hollingsworth, a teacher at West Elementary, directed the performance.
