Two Gardendale High School students were honored at the Jefferson County Board of Education’s regular meeting on Monday.

Jacob Maynard was honored as an exceptional student along with four other Jefferson County students. Maynard is planning on majoring in an engineering field in college. He is also an athlete and a percussionist in a youth worship band at Gardendale First Baptist Church.

Ja’Micheal Willis was recognized for his recent mention in Sports Illustrated.

In addition, Gardendale High School principal Dr. Anna Vacca gave a plaque to John Russell thanking him for refurbishing the rocket that sits in the school’s parking lot.
