The Warrior City Council is considering allowing AT&T to provide a new service, AT&T U-Verse, to residents within the city limits.
According to Glyn Agnew, a regional director for AT&T, the service is intended to compete with cable and satellite services. The city would get 5 percent of the revenue from each customer within the city limits, and the city would also get a share of advertising and home shopping profits.
The service would provide high speed Internet, television, telephone and other services. It’s possible that AT&T would install fiber optic cable in the city. The service has several packages available, including ones with DVR.
The Council also announced the Warrior Fire Department would be receiving its new Zoll Automatic External Defibrillators within the week. At its last meeting the council approved the purchase of the defibrillators at a cost of $74,766. A $72,000 federal grant was used to purchase the AEDs. AEDs can be used by average people with little to no training; they automatically diagnose cardiac problems and treat them with electrical impulses.
Councilman Brad Fuller also said the fire department was submitting a $25,000 grant proposal to Firehouse Subs for extrication tools.
