A power outage occurred in Gardendale on Tuesday at 4:50 p.m. when a large truck snagged a power line at the Shell gas station on Fieldstown Road.
Police said the truck was driving around the Shell building when the top of the truck caught a power line, pulling the weatherhead off of the top of the building and causing the power issue.
Keisa Sharpe, a spokeswoman for Alabama Power, said 878 people were affected by the power outage.
“It’s unusual that it caused outages for that many people,” said Sharpe.
She said a large vehicle snagging a power line was not an uncommon event, and that it was a fairly routine repair that took an Alabama Power line crew only about 40 minutes to fix.
“The crew said they had just fixed the same problem where a dump truck backed up and snagged a power line,” said Sharpe.
She said there was no damage to any transformers.
