Garden tip: If you have insects (just one or two once in a while) mix a half-cup of rubbing alcohol with a half-tablespoon tablespoon of vegetable oil in a pint of warm water. Spray each pest with one squirt of this mixture. Boy, does it work.

• Happy birthday greetings to: Margie Orfendoof on Jan. 10; Eva Moses on Jan. 12; Dora McAlpine on Jan. 12 or 14 (I have both days down for your birthday.); Essie Mae Lowe on Jan. 15; and to Berlie Mae Mayfield on Jan. 16. She is a very special lady and friend/cousin.

• Congratulations goes to a great young lady, Sydney Sloan, who made all A’s in her second-grade class at Westhills School. She made the Star Student for the month with all A+ grades. Keep up the great work! She is the daughter of Allan Sloan.

• The Lions Club still has pecans on sale at R and R Drug Store, Superior Bank, Youngs Grocery in Trafford, Jones Cleaners, Ace Hardware and the Warrior Library. They are $15 for a bag of cracked pecans. Buy them soon before they are gone. The Warrior Lions Club has pecans for sale every year. The money goes for a great cause. Also, the Warrior history calendars can be purchased for $5 each at the same places the pecans are sold, plus McCurry Furniture store.

• Remember to pray for our troops that are in harm’s way and for our country.
