Church to shred papers for residents

Gardendale-Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church is having its second annual “Shredding Day” on Saturday.

“We know that there are confidential documents that the community needs destroyed, and not everybody has access to a shredder,” said Robert Bradley, director of worship at Gardendale-Mt. Vernon.

A windowed shredding truck from Secure Destruction Services (located in Birmingham) will be at the covered portico outside the Family Ministries Building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shredding the documents is free. Secure Destruction Services is charging the church a nominal fee. There is a limit of five boxes per person. People can even drive through and drop off their documents. There will also be places to recycle cell phones, aluminum cans, and printer ink cartridges.
