Special primary election for House District 11 seat May 13, general election Aug. 26; Former CCBOE member Heath Allbright announces candidacy

Gov. Kay Ivey has set the special election dates for Alabama House District 11, previously held by Rep. Randall Shedd, who resigned Feb. 17, to join the office of Senate President Pro Tem Garlan Gudger.

The special primary election will be Tuesday, May 13, 2025. If there is a need for a runoff, that date will be Tuesday, June 10, 2025 with the special general election Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2025.

“Rep. Randall Shedd has been an effective leader for the people of District 11, putting his constituents first and working tirelessly to improve their communities. I was proud to work alongside him, especially to expand broadband access across Alabama, ensuring more families, students and businesses have connectivity,” Ivey said in a press release. “As we move forward in filling this seat, I encourage everyone in District 11 to make their voice heard by getting out and voting in this special election.”

The deadline for qualifying with major political parties will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 5 p.m. The deadline for all independent candidates and/or minor parties is Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 5 p.m.

Former Cullman County School Board member Heath Allbright announced Monday, Feb. 24, that he would be seeking the seat in the Republican primary. The Holly Pond native owns Brighton Forestry Services, a timber harvesting and reforestation company.

“As a lifelong resident of Cullman County, I have seen firsthand the challenges we face and the opportunities we can seize,” Allbright stated on his campaign’s Facebook page. “I am ready to work with the people to ensure our district thrives — supporting families, schools and businesses while preserving the values that make district 11 home!”
