VINEMONT — The town of South Vinemont announced plans for a significant property acquisition, which would allow for major upgrades to its municipal facilities Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Mayor Radignal Dodson called for council members and the town’s public works director, Mike Graves, to enter a closed executive session at the top of Tuesday’s meeting. The body reconvened after approximately 20 minutes of closed-door deliberation and approved for Dodson to begin negotiating a purchase price with a local property owner.

Following the meeting, Town Clerk Kayesea Sasser told The Times that the town was hoping to purchase two full parcels — totaling 1.1 acres — and a section of a third parcel adjacent to Vinemont Town Hall on Patton Drive.

Sasser added that plans for the property would include constructing a new multi-purpose municipal building, which would primarily be used as a new town hall and recreation center.

In other business, the council:

— Accepted a bid of $4,000 from Brock Tree Service to remove eight pine trees along Calloway Drive.

— Approved the surplus of a small electric truck from the town’s maintenance department.

— Approved to compensate Sasser for her duties as absentee election manager during the upcoming municipal election in November.
