The town of Morris is seeing some commercial development on the corner of U.S. Hwy. 31 and Morris Majestic Road, but is having trouble getting solid commitments from developers.

“We’re doing all we can to encourage development,” said Morris Mayor Craig Drummonds. “It’s going to be a good thing for the town.”

Although no developers have confirmed interest in opening businesses on the land, Drummonds said he feels the town is close to convincing several oil companies to commit.

The site will almost certainly house a gas station, as well as one or two other businesses; one of them will likely be a convenience store. Drummonds said a Subway would possibly open in the space as well.

The town began preparing the land for construction in July. They plan to use the money from the businesses to support their police and fire departments.
