The long legs of the law

Kenny Rogers fans will know that you can’t outrun the long arm of the law in Cumberland, Kentucky, but Cullman Police Officer Josh Spinks has now proven that in Cullman, Alabama, it is just as difficult to outrun the long legs of the law.
The Cullman City Council recognized Spinks Monday, Aug. 12, for the impressive capture of an escaped suspect late last month. Assistant Chief Brandon Patterson with Cullman City Police, said Spinks and other officers had been made aware that a suspect had previously escaped custody as they began their shifts July 31.
Spinks was able to identify the suspect in the Marktplatz Shopping Center outside of the AMC theater. Once it became clear he had been located, the suspect attempted to flee on foot. “What he didn’t know was that he was trying to run from one of our fastest guys,” Patterson said.
Patterson said Spinks was able to run the suspect down from roughly 150 yards and make a successful arrest.
Mayor Woody Jacobs said the suspect had previously been charged with vandalism and theft from several city owned parks.
“Hopefully this made an impression [that he should] move somewhere else, cause Spinks’ll get him again,” Jacobs said.
