Cullman Community Theatre to present The Sound of Music

Starting Thursday and continuing through Sunday, the hills are alive at the Cullman High School auditorium, where the Cullman Community Theatre is set to kick off a quartet of performances featuring an all-local cast playing Maria, Captain von Trapp, Liesl and more familiar favorite-things characters from “The Sound of Music.”
Based on the classic 1959 Rogers and Hammerstein musical and enormously popularized in the 1965 film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, The Sound of Music will get the local treatment with a slate of 7 p.m. performances on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, before ending its four-day run with a 2 p.m. performance on Sunday.
Given Cullman’s rich German background, a few tweaks on local Teutonic influence are probably in order. At this week’s dress rehearsal, for instance, one director had to remind cast members to pronounce Germany’s capital city as Ber-LIN instead of our local BER-lin variant. But no matter the time and place, this week’s ensemble production serves as Community Theatre’s latest showcase for the abundance of all-ages performing talent drawn from across the Cullman area.
Featuring Paige Harbison Claibo as Maria, Mark Preiss as Captain von Trapp and Grant Holland as Max, Cullman Community Theatre’s production of The Sound of Music begins its local stint this evening at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased for $15 (cash only) at the door, or online (via CullmanCT.booktix.com) for $12.
