Weekend accident claims life of Holly Pond man

A single-vehicle crash that occurred at about 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, has claimed the life of a Holly Pond man. According to a statement from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Derek L. Humphries, 36, was killed when the 2020 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle he was operating left the roadway and struck a guardrail. Humphries was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
The crash occurred on Interstate 65 near the 316 mile marker, approximately three miles north of Vinemont.
Nothing further is available as troopers with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
