Class 3A, Region 5

Vinemont 32, Midfield 28

A week after falling in a four-overtime marathon, the Eagles overcame a flat start and a late surge from Midfield on Friday night to get their first region win of the season.

“I’m more proud of our kids for bouncing back (from last week) than anything,” Vinemont coach Stephen Robinson said. “Obviously, I’m proud of them for the win, but that loss last week was tough to take. It was tough for me as a coach — I made some critical mistakes — and we had some kids that made some mistakes I know they felt down about. Being able to come out here tonight, and we were a little flat to start the game, it just kind of produced some energy and got some energy going.”

While the Eagles (3-1, 1-1) played from behind for a chunk of the first half, touchdown runs by Chad Reynolds and Kayden Henderson helped knot the game at 16 heading into halftime.

Henderson then intercepted a pass in Midfield territory late in the third quarter, which led to a touchdown run from Reynolds shortly afterward to give Vinemont its first lead of the game. In the fourth quarter, the Patriots quickly cut it to a 2-point contest before a touchdown scamper by Josh Rhodes and 2-point conversion by Henderson gave the Eagles a double-digit lead that, despite a late score by Midfield, was enough to secure the win.

“With a team like Midfield, which has a lot of athletes, if you make one mistake they can make you pay,” Robinson said. “That’s what happened on a few of their scores, but the defense got stops when we needed it and there were some huge plays by our defense to get them behind the chains. There were some good adjustments by coach (David) Stokes and coach (Anthony) Pace to put us in good situations to be able to make those plays. It was really a game of our offense making plays when they needed to and our defense making plays when they needed to.”

Robinson highlighted the offensive line, which paved the way for around 300 rushing yards. Reynolds had 35 carries for 150 yards and Rhodes had seven rushes for 83 yards.

The Eagles host Carbon Hill next week.

Class 1A, Region 7

Addison 39, Cherokee 6

Coach David Smothers’ group rolled to a road victory on Friday night.

The Bulldogs led 16-0 at halftime thanks to touchdown runs by Seth Hammack and Kaden Dyson. Zayne Smith and Scout Flynn added 2-point conversions.

Dyson, Elijah Roberts and Judah Wilkins produced scoring scampers in the second half, while Smith (run) and Dathan Cleghorn (pass from Roberts) converted 2-point attempts. Wyatt Anderson kicked an extra point as well.

Addison (3-1, 2-0) hosts No. 4 Hackleburg next week.

Class 2A, Region 6

Cold Springs 46, Cleveland 0

The Eagles soared past the Panthers en route to a road win on Friday night.

Cold Springs led 30-0 at halftime behind three touchdown runs by Matt Williams and another from Tycen Kilgo. Mason Gable (two) and Williams (one) added 2-point conversions.

Cooper Johnson and Kevin Puckett each found the end zone in the second half. Aiden Black threw a 2-point toss to Gable and Tidus Light ran in another.

Cold Springs (3-1, 1-1) hosts Winston County next week.

Class 4A, Region 5

Good Hope 27, Haleyville 7

The Raiders turned in another strong second-half performance on Friday night to defeat Haleyville 27-7 and improve to 3-0 (2-0) on the season.

Good Hope was led by Tyler Cone, who rushed for 122 yards and three touchdowns. Mason Drake provided a touchdown of his own to cap the offensive production.

Coach Alan Scott’s group outscored the Lions 20-0 over the final 24 minutes.

“For the third game in the row, we’ve come alive in the second half offensively,” Scott said. “No real changes — just a matter of cleaning things up. I felt like we played a little sloppy in the first half, but when we cleaned up the mistakes, we were able to pull away. (3-0) is a good place to be, but there are always things to improve.”

Good Hope travels to Cordova next week.
