HANCEVILLE — Hanceville leaders made arrangements this week that clear the paperwork path for a pair of upcoming October outings in the city, approving street closures and permits for the Mud Creek Marching Festival and the Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat Halloween event.
The 33rd Mud Creek Marching Festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Hanceville High School football stadium. In preparation for the day-long event, the Hanceville City Council this week approved the closing of streets near the venue, including Park Street, Bulldog Lane and a portion of Stadium Street from Blue Bell Avenue to its end point.
All street closures for the festival will be effective from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m Oct. 26.
Held annually in time for Halloween, the Hanceville Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat draws hundred of families to the city’s downtown for an evening of car-to-car trick-or-treating. This year’s festival will be held on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
At its regular meeting Thursday, the Hanceville City Council granted a Fall Festival & Trunk or Treat event permit to sponsoring organization Friends of the Festival. It also approved a series of downtown street closures for the event, including the closing of Bangor Street, Commercial Street between U.S. Highway 31 and Church Street, a portion of Bangor Avenue, and a one-block stretch of Blountsville Street.
In other business at its regular meeting, the council:
— Reappointed Pam Reid to a seat on the Hanceville Historic Preservation Commission for a three-year term.
— Reappointed Rebecca Reeves to a seat on the Hanceville Historic Preservation Commission for a three-year term.
— Approved the minutes of the council’s Sept. 26 regular meeting.
The next regular meeting of the Hanceville City Council will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 in the council meeting room at Hanceville City Hall. A 5 p.m. public work session will precede the meeting at the same location.
