The contractor on the I-65 Tennessee River Bridge rehabilitation project made significant progress during around-the-clock lane closures the last two weekends. Cekra completed concrete repairs to the northbound bridge deck ahead of schedule.

More around-the-clock lane closures, originally planned for the remaining two weekends in October, won’t be necessary.

Currently, no lane closures extending into daytime are planned for the remainder of the project, though motorists should continue to expect some nighttime (6 p.m. to 6 a.m.) lane closures. For real-time traffic updates visit ALGOTraffic.com.

The planned 60-hour lane closures starting Friday evenings concluded earlier than scheduled both weekends. The first weekend, the lane reopened in less than 24 hours. The following weekend, the closure ended about eight hours ahead of schedule.

The $23.7 million bridge rehab project also includes cleaning, painting and repairing structural steel on the 50-year-old bridges. Though originally anticipated to take more than two years, work is already more than halfway complete. The project appears on track for substantial completion in 2025.
