On Wednesday, Oct. 9, Cullman Mayor Woody Jacobs proclaimed the month of October “Beef Month” in the City of Cullman. October has been designated as “Beef Month” since 1964 to recognize and promote the beef industry.

“Cullman County is known for its thriving beef industry and for being one of the top agricultural counties in Alabama,” said Jacobs. “The beef cattle business is one of Cullman’s top agricultural industries.”

Jesse Crumbley, David Benefield and Terry Slaten from the Cullman County Cattlemen’s Association were on hand to accept the proclamation from Jacobs. The Cullman County Cattlemen’s Association is a county chapter of the Alabama Cattlemen’s Association which was organized in 1944 to protect the interests and welfare of Alabama’s cattlemen and the cattle industry. The more than 400 members of Cullman County Cattlemen’s Association, Cullman County CattleWomen’s Association and Cullman County Junior Cattlemen’s Association sponsor and participate in events and activities throughout the year to promote the beef cattle industry in our county.

The beef cattle business in Cullman County is a $21.4 million dollar industry that provides more than 350 full-time jobs locally. Cullman County currently ranks 2nd in the state with over 55,000 head of cattle and calves.

“Cullman County’s beef cattle industry is important to the City of Cullman,” said Jacobs. “Each year, I and other local city, town and county officials sign the ‘Farm-City Week’ joint proclamation proclaiming ‘Farm-City Week’ to honor and recognize our county’s agricultural industry and the cooperative partnerships formed between our urban and rural communities.”
