Police are still searching for two men who allegedly robbed employees at gunpoint at the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Gardendale.
Gardendale Police Detective Chuck Denham said the robbery happened outside the store at about 11 p.m. as employees were leaving.
The suspects were armed with a handgun and reportedly took cash from at least one employee. No money from the store was taken and no one was injured.
Victims described the suspects as black males in their 20s. One suspect is approximately 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighs 170 pounds. The other suspect is approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall and weighs 190 pounds.
Store owner Mike Holmes said he has always had a policy of requiring people to walk out in groups at night when the store closes. He now requires them to go straight to their cars and leave the premises in order to stay out of danger.
“As an employer, you want people who work for you to enjoy spending time together and to have that camaraderie. Unfortunately, they’re just going to have to do it elsewhere,” Holmes said. “Standing out in the parking lot talking with your friends after work is not an option anymore.”
Holmes and his wife Jan also own the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Fultondale. He said this is the first time either of his stores has been robbed.
Those with any information about the incident are asked to call the Gardendale Police Department at 631-8787.
