Coronavirus COVID-19

The latest results from the Alabama Department of Public Health show there are 29 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Alabama, with 17 of those cases in Jefferson County. 

At least one of the patients who tested positive in Jefferson County was located in Gardendale. 

According to social media reports, the patient in Gardendale had been out of the country. According to her, she self-isolated as recommended. When no symptoms appeared, she was told she was cleared. Days later, when the testing became available, she tested positive and re-entered isolation.

After the positive test, the woman took to Facebook to alert others that she had tested positive and tell them where in the community she had visited so they could be aware. After this post, according to Gardendale Police, she began receiving death threats and other attacks.

Because of these issues, we have chosen not to post the individual’s name.

According to the CDC,  symptoms of COVID-19 are fever, cough and shortness of breath that occur between two and 14 days after exposure. 

Anyone who believes they are showing symptoms of the virus are asked to call their healthcare provider prior to coming in for a test, so that precautions can be taken to prevent additional exposure.
