The city of Good Hope will soon begin hosting weekly prize drawings for residents that complete the 2020 Census.

Beginning this Friday and continuing for the next 10 Fridays, the city will be drawing names at 10 a.m. for $50 gift cards to local Good Hope businesses, said Good Hope Mayor Jerry Bartlett.

He said at the end of the 10 weeks, all names will be returned into the drawing pool for the chance to win the grand prize — a 50-inch TV.

To enter into the drawing, Good Hope residents first need to complete their census at my2020census.gov, then screenshot their names and addresses portion of the census and the confirmation page they will see after completing it. Then, they should email those screenshots to admin@goodhopeal.com or by send by Facebook Messenger to the City of Good Hope Facebook page.

Anyone who lives in the Good Hope city limits is welcome to enter, and those who have already completed their census can still enter the drawing by filling out their census again and getting the confirmation number again.

As of Monday afternoon, Cullman County and the state of Alabama both had a response rate of 49 percent, and Bartlett said he was recently notified that more than 50 percent of Good Hope residents have already completed their census.

Hosting the prize drawings is a good way to encourage the rest of the city to be counted while also helping out some of the city’s businesses that are currently going through a hard time.

“We just want to reward people that have done it with our businesses that need our support,” he said.
