Betty Lou Booker Singletary, our sweet wife and mother, went home to heaven on Sunday, October 12, 2008, and is well and at peace after a courageous battle with leukemia and Alzheimer’s disease. Betty was born on Easter Sunday, April 16, 1933. There are not enough words to describe Betty Singletary. She was a loving Christian wife and mother, truly adored by all who loved her and respected by all who knew her for her kind heart, gentle nature and genuine love of life. She loved Jesus, David, her children, and her dog, Scrappy. She enjoyed Bible study, needlework, pink and blue, shopping, clothes, and chocolate chip cookies at the mall. She will be immeasurably missed by each and every life she touched. Betty leaves behind her loving husband of 58 years, David B. Singletary, Jr.; her loving children, Cynthia Singletary Densmore and her husband C. Randall Densmore, Morris and Lyvonnia Singletary Poppell and her husband Samuel W. Poppell, Jr., Montgomery; five devoted grandchildren, Haley Renee Densmore (fiancée, Nick Allen), Ryan Lance Densmore, Aubri Michelle Poppell, Samuel W. Poppell, III (Trey), and Natalie Blair Poppell; one brother, Thomas Eugene Booker and his wife Carol Gerk Booker; one sister, Shirley Booker Miller and her husband James E. Miller; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her parents, Thomas Milton and Hattie Lou Lee Booker; and a sister, Bonnie Ruth Booker, preceded her in death. She was a resident of Castle Heights. She was a devoted member of Glennwood Baptist Church. A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at Gardendale Funeral Home, 2214 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, on Wednesday, October 15 at 11 a.m. with The Reverend David Bays officiating. Graveside Services will follow at Glennwood Baptist Church Cemetery, 1929 Glennwood Road, Morris. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make contributions to your favorite charity.
