STATE VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT: Addison advances to Class 2A championship match; Fairview eliminated

The No. 1 Lady Bulldogs breezed by Ariton (25-12, 25-12, 25-12) and No. 6 Cedar Bluff (25-10, 25-18, 25-21) at the Class 2A state volleyball tournament on Wednesday to punch their ticket to the championship match for an 11th consecutive season.

Addison (45-14) will try to collect its seventh straight state title and 12th in program history when it plays No. 2 G.W. Long at Birmingham’s Bill Harris Arena on Thursday.

The Lady Rebels downed No. 3 Winston County and No. 4 Sand Rock to advance.

The matchup is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Savannah Manley (18 blocks, 17 kills, seven digs and four aces), Callie Crider (15 kills, 14 digs, seven blocks and two aces), Addisyn Smothers (20 kills, 16 digs, three blocks and one ace), Sunny Snoddy (12 kills and three blocks), Gracie Manley (62 assists, 10 digs and four aces) and Macey Butler (19 digs, four blocks and three aces) all contributed for Addison.

“I am super proud of this group,” coach Kayla Woodard said. “We played some good teams today and really worked hard. We are really excited about tomorrow.”


Class 4A

For the second straight year, Fairview fell short against Providence Christian in the opening round.

The second-ranked Lady Eagles downed the No. 10 Lady Aggies (25-11, 25-16, 25-18) to advance.

Fairview finished the season with a 50-19 record. 

Micah Means (23 assists, three kills, two digs and one block), Katie Ball (nine digs, four kills and one block), Daisy Manasco (11 kills, seven digs, two blocks and one assist), Isabella McGukin (five digs and four kills), Deavan Fulmer (two digs and one kill), Maddie Yeager (six digs), Sophi Hardman (three digs), Jacy Gorham (two digs) and Sarah Bryan (one dig) provided contributions for the Lady Aggies.

In addition to its second consecutive state tournament berth, Fairview also won the Area 11 Tournament, Lawrence County Pre-Area Tournament and West End Invitational this season.
