FAIRVIEW — The smiles on the faces of Jameson Goble and Eli Frost told the whole story.

So, too, did the dynamic duo’s tremendous performances on the field Tuesday night.

Goble recorded 14 carries for 190 yards and four touchdowns, and Frost totaled 13 carries for 196 yards and two touchdowns to help Fairview outlast West Point 41-32 inside Dafford Smith Stadium and secure the Cullman County middle school championship.

The Aggies capped off their season with a 7-1 record, while the Warriors finished 5-3.

Fairview fell short in last year’s title tilt, but Goble and Frost weren’t going to be denied again.

“I’m very excited,” Goble said. “I almost cried tears of joy when the final seconds ticked down. I’ve been waiting on this day all season and since last year. It’s our legacy now.”

Added Frost: “It’s the first time we’ve won this in 10 years, and I’m glad that I got to do this for my school. That’s really it.”

Noah Laney put West Point ahead 8-0 in the first frame following a 1-yard touchdown run and subsequent 2-point conversion.

Fairview answered right back, though, with Goble’s 12-yard scoring scamper to make it 8-7.

It only got more exciting from there.

Garit Roberson’s 5-yard touchdown dash gifted the Warriors a 14-7 advantage before Goble’s 65-yard jaunt later in the second quarter tied things at 14.

West Point, however, was able to take a 20-14 cushion into halftime following a 60-yard touchdown toss from Parker Marks to Eli Sims.

The Warriors extended their lead to 12 points (26-14) late in the third quarter when Dawson Smith found the end zone from 6 yards out.

The scoring drive was set up by a Patrick Adcock fumble recovery.

It was also the first of three straight touchdown plays.

Frost took the first snap 65 yards for a score on Fairview’s next possession before Marks went 60 yards down the right sideline on the ensuing kickoff for a fast response.

When the dust settled, West Point led 32-21.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, that’s when the Aggies took over the contest.

Goble’s 4-yard touchdown run made it 32-27, and he then recovered a West Point fumble on the resulting kickoff.

Fairview eventually cashed that break in with a 14-yard touchdown dash from Frost to collect its first lead of the game at 34-32.

The Warriors drove inside the 15-yard line on their next possession, but another fumble — and another Goble recovery — ended the threat.

And just three plays later, Goble sprinted 44 yards for his final score of the matchup.

From there, it was a matter of counting down the seconds to victory.

“I’m very proud of the way our guys came out and played the second half,” coach David Martin said. “We didn’t execute well the first half, and it showed. West Point played a great game tonight. Our boys wanted to win and did what we needed to pull it off.”

Goble and Frost were responsible for all but five of Fairview’s offensive yards.

Kobe Payne also had an interception.

Marks completed 3 of 9 passes for 89 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He added 84 yards on seven carries.

Laney (13 carries for 79 yards), Roberson (10 carries for 46 yards) and Adcock (five carries for 23 yards) spearheaded West Point’s ground attack.

Sims provided three catches for 89 yards.

A scary moment temporarily halted the conclusion of Tuesday’s game.

West Point’s Sylar Philyaw was injured during a kickoff return and remained down on the field for nearly 30 minutes.

He was eventually taken away on an ambulance to the applause of those in attendance.

His condition was unknown at press time.

“We knelt down and said a prayer for him and are hoping the best for him. We hope it’s nothing severe,” West Point coach Toby Denson said.

“Our prayers go out to the young man who was injured during the game,” Martin said.
