Myrex elected CCBOE president

The Cullman County School Board approved four out-of-state or overnight field trip requests during Thursday night’s meeting.
The trips include the Cold Springs High School FCCLA visiting Dallas, Texas on Nov. 14 to attend the FCCLA Cluster Meeting, the Good Hope High School cheer team traveling to Jackson, Mississippi on Dec. 8 for the Nationals Qualifying Cheer Competition and the West Point High School Scholar’s Bowl team going to Glasgow, Kentucky on Jan. 31 for the Pre-Nationals Small School Invitational.
The board also approved Vinemont Elementary Student Council to travel on an overnight trip to Birmingham on Nov. 22 to visit the McWane Science Center.
The board also elected its officers for the 2019-2020 year, with Wayne Myrex serving as president and Shane Rusk serving as vice-president.
In other business, the board:
Approval of 2019-2020 Afterschool Programs and Personnel (personnel paid with local school funds): Parkside ($15 an hour)- Audra Knop, April Smith, Rhonda Howse, Debbie Bentley, Stephanie Coffey, Jeff Greer and Amy Eudy.
Approved a request from Cold Springs Band Boosters to pay Jesse James, Hanceville High School Band Director, $650 for the duties of music arranger for 2019-20, paid by Cold Springs Band Boosters.
Approved a request from Fairview Middle School to pay the following, paid by local school funds: E.J. Carter, $10 per game to keep the basketball clock; Kenny Griffin, $400 for completing athletic (C2C) duties for the 2019-20 school year; Linda Chapman, $400 for completing athletic (C2C) duties for the 2019-20 school year.
Approved a request from Good Hope Elementary School to pay the following teachers $25 an hour for before and after school tutoring as needed, paid with Title I funds: Janet Sweatmon
Approved a request from Hanceville Middle School to pay the following, paid by local school funds: Kim Kanaday to keep books for basketball, 40 games at $11 a game ($440); Kim Kanaday, $240 for keeping Hanceville Middle volleyball game score books ($10 a game).
Approved a request from Hanceville High School to pay the following, paid by local school funds: Brent Barnett, $22 an hour for after school detention on Tuesdays and Thursdays; Steve Almond, $22 an hour for after school detention on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Approved a request from Vinemont Elementary School to pay Kerry Thompson and Lance Lay $300 each for refinishing the elementary gym floor, paid by local school funds.
Approved a request from Vinemont Middle School to pay the following, paid by local school funds: Scotty Cofer, $1,000 for serving as 2019-2020 Athletic Director; Erik Runge, $200 for attending AMSTI training.
Approved a request from Vinemont High School to pay Kerry Thompson and Lance Lay $400 each for work on the high school and middle school gym floors, paid by local school funds.
Approved September 2019 Financial Statements.
Approved September 2019 Bills and Salaries in the amount of $20,146,391.88.
Approved a request from the Technology Department to award Bid #11-19 CDW-G for Chromebook Cases with shoulder straps.
Approved the 2019-2020 Sick Leave Bank Committee (committee members will serve from Nov. 1, 2019 to Oct. 31, 2020): Certified – Muriel Kanaday and Teresa Presto; Classified – Kayla Burgess and Chase Nelson; Board Representative – Ed Roberson, CSFO and Terry Wilhite, Payroll Manager.
Approved the 2019-2020 Math Elementary Textbook Committee.
Approved a request to provide a supplement of $5,000 to Connie Underwood to be paid over the FY20 school year effective Nov. 1for the following additional duties, paid by Title I: Providing families of non-speaking English information and training on students’ education, Providing families and students with appropriate plans to support the educational needs of the students (insurance, blue slips, doctors’ appointments, special education services, 504 referrals, etc.)
Approval of request to provide a supplement of $5,000 to Amita Smith for the following additional duties with the Nuts and Bolts Symposium for June 2020 to be paid over FY20 school year effective Nov. 1, paid by Title II: Register, manage and invoice all attendees for the conference, Cullman County teachers and administrators along with surrounding districts will attend.
Approved a request to pay the following teachers for meeting goals and student scores on AP courses-to be paid by A+ College Ready: Lee Henry- $3,500, Brittany Sams- $300, Jimmy Harbison- $300, Donald Lynn- $300, Candice Harbison- $500, Leah Cochran- $300, Randy Jones- $100.
Approved a request to pay Joey Eddy $500 for extra work on A+, paid by A+ College Ready.
Approved to pay the following for up to five unused Annual Leave days, as per board policy- Connie Baker.
Approval of request from the Cullman County Education Support Professionals for two days professional leave for their elected delegates to attend the 2019 ESP Delegate Assembly in Montgomery on Dec. 5-7 and half-day substitutes on Thursday to be paid by the general fund (CCESP will pay the substitutes for the other 1.5 days): Carol Cline, Sheila Mitchell, Keith Kugler, Brandy Jett, Marlene Hancock, Jennifer Carmack, Connie Hilton, Lynn Bradford, Ramona Bryant- Alternate.
Approval of request from the Cullman County Education Support Professionals for two days professional leave for their elected delegates to attend the 2019 ESP Delegate Assembly in Montgomery, Alabama on Dec. 5-6 and two day substitutes to be paid by CCESP: Patti Hasenbein- no sub, Lavonne Osborne- sub, Rena Watson- no sub, Rodney Turner- no sub.
Selected a board member to serve as a delegate for the 2019 Alabama Association of School Boards Delegate Assembly, Dec, 8 in Birmingham: Delegates- Gene Sullins and Mike Graves.
Approved a recommendation that the employment of a probationary classified employee be terminated effective 15 days from the date notice of termination is issued.
