Stella Parton

Farm City returns to Cullman County in a big way this year, when Stella Parton takes the stage Thursday at the Cullman Civic Center to help swing the attention back to the country side of things as organizers prepare to celebrate this year’s Farm family.

Parton’s last name is famous for more than just one reason. Yes, she’s Dolly Parton’s younger sister, but true-blue country fans know that the Sevierville, Tennessee native has enjoyed a long entertainment career that sprang to life in the 1970s, with a string of top-40 hits.

An annual celebration of the interdependence between rural and urban life, Farm City selects a local family each year as ambassadors for either the urban or the rural way of life. Farm and city take turns in alternating years, and for the coming year, it’ll be the farm family’s time to shine.

At last year’s banquet, Jay and Melissa Betts were named the City Family of the Year by the Cullman Farm City Committee, a tip of the hat to the Betts’ work in starting and running the Knapsacks for Kids program at Cullman First United Methodist Church.

This year’s Farm City banquet will be held Thursday, Nov. 21, with ribeye steaks (supplied by the Cullman County Cattlemen and Cattlewomen’s Association) served beginning at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 per person and also include a salad, side, dessert, and drink prepared by Top of the Town — as well as a memorable evening with Stella Parton.
