Kim Brazell, right, and her mom June, Brazell drove over from Hartselle Friday morning after seeing Southern Accents online.

Southern Accents Architectural Antiques reached the half-century mark today in downtown Cullman.

Started in 1969 by the late Garland Gudger Sr., and now under the guidance of his son, state Sen. Garlan Gudger Jr., the business was started in the family’s garage.

The Gudgers spent years salvaging antique building materials from various locations. The local store draws shoppers from across the region, as well as visitors online.

Gudger said a celebration is planned for the anniversary in the next several weeks.
