Kameron Woods scores 28 points to lift Pinson into regional finals

The sixth-ranked Pinson Valley Indians saved their best basketball for the final frame Friday afternoon in Jacksonville, as the Area 12 champions beat No. 2 Lee-Huntsville 67-52 in the Class 6A Northeast Regional semifinals.

Pinson Valley (21-9) outscored the Generals 24-8 in the fourth quarter to secure victory. Koolaid McKinstry knocked down a jumper to give the Indians their first lead of the day at 45-44 with 7:23 remaining in the fourth. That make sparked a 9-0 Pinson Valley run and put them on a collision course with Huffman in the regional finals next Wednesday in Pete Mathews Coliseum. That game is scheduled to tip off at 2:15 p.m.

Pinson Valley trailed by as many as 10 points in the first half, but worked the halftime deficit down to 26-21 and later pulled to within 44-43 at the start of the fourth quarter. Once McKinstry made his go-ahead shot early in the fourth, Pinson Valley never surrendered its lead.

Kameron Woods paced the home team with 28 points thanks in large part to a 6 for 9 effort from beyond the arc. McKinstry added 16 points, five assists and four steals.

For Lee-Huntsville (23-8), Kobe Brown led the charge with 28 points. His only teammate to break into double figures was Tyrese Smith, who finished with 10 points in the loss.
