County school board recognizes faculty

Faculty members were recognized for going above and beyond their regular duties during Thursday night’s meeting of the Cullman County School Board.
The system’s e5 Exceptional Service Award, which is a nomination-based honor for volunteers and school staff who put forth an extra effort to their schools.
Only one of the honorees was able to attend the meeting due to the evening’s severe weather, West Point Intermediate’s Sonia Eady, and Cullman County School Superintendent Shane Barnett read from the nomination form that was submitted from her school and spoke about his own experiences working with her.
“She’s not only a great worker, but she’s a great person,” he said.
The other winners for March were Kerrie McCluskey of the Child Development Center, Ted Nesmith of Vinemont High School, Sara Phelps of Good Hope Elementary and Chelsie Alldrege of Holly Pond High School.
The board also awarded its monthly Elementary Teacher of the Month Award to Hanceville’s Michelle Ponder, the Secondary Teacher of the Month Award to April Hays of Holly Pond High School and the Principal of the Month Award to Chris Chambers of the Child Development Center.
In other business, the board:
Approved an increase in travel reimbursement from $.45 per mile to $.58 per mile.
Approved a request from Hanceville Middle School to pay Kim Kanaday for tutoring up to 228 hours this semester, paid $25 an hour from Title I funds.
Approved a request from Vinemont Elementary School to add the following substitutes to the After School Program, paid $20 an hour from local school funds: Audrey Strickland and Jennifer Quick.
Approved a request from Welti Elementary School to host a before school program Monday-Friday from 6:30-7:30 a.m. at a cost $10 per week. Teachers: Samantha Hunter, Before School Care Director- $22 an hour; Jennifer Hays- $20 an hour.
Approved a request from Welti Elementary School to increase After School Program Salaries: Krystal Ayers, After School Program Director- $22 an hour; Charlotte Reid, Jennifer Hays, Katara Davidson, Stefanie Bagwell and Jan Sexton- $20 an hour.
Approved a request to pay Wanda Quick $900 for additional work an A+, paid by A+ College Ready.
Approved to pay Wanda Quick for up to five unused annual leave days, as per board policy.
Approved the following out-of-state field trip requests
Parkside School, math/science day at Six Flags over Georgia on April 5.
West Point Middle School, Scholars Bowl National Championship Tournament in Chicago on May 9.
Approved January 2019 financial statements.
Approved January 2019 bills and salaries in the amount of $8,927,845.93.
Approved Maintenance Department Public Works Project No. 19-03, Cullman Area Technology Academy Culinary Arts Flooring Project to Shannon Brothers Tile with a project cost of $10,480.
Approved Change Order #2- PG Wells Enterprises, Inc.- Good Hope High Electrical Upgrade and Renovation- 153 day extension- no add/deduct of funds.
Approved Technology Department to award Bid #03-19 for Wi-fi equipment to LST.
The Cullman County School Board will next meet on April 11 at 6 p.m. in the Central Office Board Room, with a work session beginning at 5:30 p.m.
